Halifax Health has collaborated with University of Florida Health to bring advanced spine care to Volusia, Flagler, and Brevard counties. Board-certified and fellowship-trained physicians from UF Health lead the program and are located at the main campus of Halifax Health in Daytona Beach.

Medical Director
Dr. Han graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1997. He then went on to complete his neurosurgical residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Han continued his studies, completing fellowships in cerebrovascular neurosurgery, endovascular neurosurgery and complex spine surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute. Currently, Dr. Han is the medical director of UF Health Neurosurgery at Halifax Health.

Board-Certified Pediatric Neurosurgeon
Dr. Blatt is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he was a National Merit Scholar and graduated magna cum laude. He then completed his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Harold C. Pillsbury Student Research Award. After receiving his MD, he remained at UNC to complete his internship and residency, both in Neurological Surgery. Dr. Blatt’s clinical interests include all aspects of pediatric neurosurgery, with special focus on brain tumors, epilepsy, minimally-invasive and transnasal (through-the-nose) brain surgery, and congenital spinal disorders.

Board-Certified Neurosurgeon
Dr. Khanna is a board-certified neurosurgeon. He specializes in minimally invasive cervical and lumbar spine surgery. He obtained his medical degree from The Ohio State University and Neurosurgical training at Henry Ford Health with a Fellowship at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Khanna has authored many publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a prolific inventor with patents in innovative spinal and cranial surgery procedures.

Board-Certified Neurosurgeon
Dr. Krafft received his medical degree from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He completed a postdoctoral neuroscience fellowship at Loma Linda University in California, where he studied and taught the involvement of peripheral immune cells in neuronal injury progression after ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Dr. Krafft completed a residency in neurosurgery and an enfolded fellowship in complex spine surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. There, he received the department’s teaching award for his contributions in resident education.

Dr. Danny Liang, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with over 20 years of experience specializing in the treatment of neck pain, spine disorders, and spinal fusion procedures. He earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and has dedicated his career to providing minimally invasive surgical solutions for patients with complex neurological conditions. Dr. Liang’s expertise spans the full spectrum of spinal and nervous system disorders, including spinal trauma, degenerative spine diseases, and nerve compression syndromes. He is committed to delivering personalized, patient-centered care, utilizing advanced surgical techniques to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes. As part of UF Health Neurosurgery at Halifax Health, Dr. Liang works alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive neurosurgical care. His approach emphasizes cutting-edge treatments, innovative technology, and a commitment to improving patients’ quality of life.

Board-Certified Neurosurgeon
Dr. Tafel received his undergraduate degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from Geisinger Commonwealth School in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Boston Children’s Hospital Harvard Program where he worked on nerve regeneration and the fabrication of advanced materials for medical applications at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Tafel completed his fellowship in complex spine for surgery at the University of Miami.

Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist
Dr. Bender, Medical Director of UF Health Pain Medicine at Halifax Health, earned his medical degree at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Fla., where he graduated as valedictorian and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Orlando Health in Orlando, Fla., and further specialized with a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
Before pursuing his medical training, Dr. Bender received a doctorate in chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Daytona Beach, Fla. During his successful chiropractic practice in South Florida, he observed patients enduring pain that he was unable to address within his scope of practice.
Driven by a desire to provide more comprehensive care, he dedicated the subsequent years to becoming an expert in minimally invasive spine care.

Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist
Alberto Bursian, MD, specializes in pain medicine at UF Health Pain Medicine – Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, FL. He began his medical career at the University of Florida, where he earned his medical degree in 2016, followed by a residency in anesthesiology at UF in 2020.
Dr. Bursian further enhanced his expertise with a fellowship in pain medicine at Baylor Scott and White Health in Temple, Texas. This focused training provided hands-on experience managing a comprehensive list of complex pain conditions.
In 2017, Dr. Bursian was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which promotes compassionate, collaborative, scientific-based care while maintaining the human connection in modern healthcare. He has also made substantial contributions to medical research with numerous publications in peer-reviewed periodicals.
